Merlot
Merlot is a red grape from Bordeaux in France and one of the most widely planted red grapes in the world. It usually gives soft, rounded wines with plum and red-berry fruit and gentler tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon, which is why the two are often blended. In Portugal it is grown mainly in the Tejo, Lisbon and Alentejo regions, both on its own and in blends with Portuguese grapes.
